Retinal detachment repair

Video notes

Step missed in the video: Air, gas exchange. Prior to removal of the ports, injection of a gas is inserted into the eye, and flushed through to maintain a tamponade, pressing against the break.

Post-operative management

Topical drops: maxidex and chloramphenicol qds

PO Acetazolamide   - covers for IOP spikes with gas bubble expansion.

Posturing: day of surgery depending and on discharge depends on surgical instruction and location of break(s).

Unable to fly or undergo anesthetic using nitrous oxide, until gas bubble has gone.

Follow up: Day 1, 2 weeks and 2 months (approximate (may vary between cases)).
